4 The vent has not been clean in the last year.

Safety Tips For Dryer Operation

1 Clean the lint trap after each use. Also once a month check the lint screen, by making sure that water can pass through. If water is staying on top of the lint screen then clean it with old toothbrush and hot soapy water.
2 Move the dryer and vacuum lint that has collected behind and underneath.
3 Do not place a nylon stocking or bug screen over the outside vent hood or other openings.
4 It is preferable not to use soft flexible ducts for vent piping. These are typically plastic films or some foil material placed over wire coils. Metal ducts will not burn if lint inside the duct catches fire.
5 Do not kink or crush the vent pipe or fittings to make up for a lack of room behind the dryer. Vent only to the outside - do not vent the dryer into an attic or crawl space.
6 Make sure the exterior vent cap is not obstructed. Trim shrubbery around the vent in order to maintain at least 12 inches of clearance.
7 Do not use the dryer for drying clothes or rags which have been used to absorb flammable liquids.
8 Never use your dryer when you are asleep or away from home.
9 Don't forget to read manufacturers' warnings in use and care manuals that accompany new dryers. Also, warning markings can usually be found on the inside of the dryer's lid and take only minutes to read.

Why clean your Dryer Vents?

1 The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates that in 1998, clothes dryers were associated with 15,600 fires, which resulted in 20 deaths and 370 injuries. (Document #5022)
2 State Farm stated that these fires caused $97.3 million in damage. This doesn't include sentimental value.
3 Reduce dry time, which helps lessen wear and tear on your clothing. Increasing the life of your clothing.
4 Reduced energy costs.
5 Dryer last much longer since it’s not operating at these higher temperatures.

What causes a Dryer Fire?

Dryers must vent the hot air from the dryer to the outside of the house. Lint becomes detached from the clothes and is carried out through the exhaust. If lint builds up in the exhaust pipe or inside the dryer, it slows the air movement through the dryer and out the exhaust. The slower air movement causes more lint to collect on the backside of the dryer drum, on the dryer motor, or on the electrical connections inside the dryer, placing the highly combustible lint on top of and adjacent to heat sources inside the dryer.

Testimonials
I can not begin to tell you how great my experience with the service I received from The Dryer Vent Dr. I was having trouble with my dryer, it was running for hours and not drying the clothes. I decided it was old so I bought a new one. Well it was just a matter of time until the new one was acting the same. I saw an ad and called Paul with The Dryer Vent Dr. He came out at the appointed time and found that I had a vent that was clogged from the dryer all the way to the roof. I even had a bird's nest in the vent. I shudder at the thought that this could have led to a fire as the dryer use to run for hours. Paul cleaned it out and the dryer is working great now. Best of all we have the peace of mind knowing that we are safe from the threat of a dryer fire. I'm so glad I called Paul! I strongly advise people who have dryers in the center of their homes to get them cleaned. I plan to do it on a regular basis. Thanks ever so much.
LaDonna Bradley, A happy Arrowhead customer.
I had just learned about the importance of cleaning your clothes dryer vent one-week before I experienced a problem that could have been a disaster. One night, I was getting ready for bed, and noticed a burning odor coming from my laundry room. I immediately stopped the load of laundry that was drying and pulled the dryer away from the wall. The dryer was extremely hot and paint had started to melt on the back of the dryer. My husband went to check the vent outside and noticed that there was no exhaust exiting the vent. It was obvious that all the lint had backed up inside the vent and a fire would have been inevitable. I called The Dryer Vent Doctor first thing the next morning and requested they come that day, and they graciously agreed. They were very thorough, friendly and professional. This is not a matter to be taken lightly and from now on I will have my dryer vent cleaned out every year.

DVD was right on time and very efficient. I am so glad that I called them, since we found that my dryer had a burn mark on the back of it from the vent build-up. I knew that the dryer was heating up more than usual, but I had no idea it was that bad. DVD probably saved us from having a fire. I now plan on having them come back regularly.
